Piazza S. Matteo Located near Palazzo Ducale, this small and harmonious square is lined with former Doria Family palaces, including a building constructed in the Renaissance period in late Gothic style and presented to Andrea Doria by the Republic of Genoa. The Church of San Matteo’s striking façade is typically Genoese with its alternating bands of black stones and white marble. The church’s crypt contains the tomb and sword of Andrea Doria.
