Registration
If you are an American citizen planning to reside for any extended period of time in the Genoa consular district (Liguria - Piemonte - Val d'Aosta), you should register with the Consular Agency.
In registering you should present your U.S. passport and, in turn, you will  be required to complete a short form indicating your address, etc By taking the time to register with the Consular Agency (which will then pass the registration to the American Consulate General in Milan), you ensure that, in the event of an emergency or if relatives in the U.S. urgently need to communicate with you, the Agency can immediately pass on the information to you. Also, should your passport be lost or stolen, the procedure for issuing a replacement will be greatly simplified.
As a foreigner you are required to have a "Permesso di Soggiorno". Hotels take care of this automatically, otherwise one must apply at the Questura (Via Diaz, 2 - Tel. (39) 010 53661)

The Consular Agency can also assist you for:

Passport Replacement

Report of Birth

Citizenship Statements
