Event Schedule

General Meetings are held six times a year and start at 11:00 am on the second Thursday of the month. Everyone gathers and enjoys the opportunity to catch up on news with other members before listening to our speaker who usually talks 30-45 minutes on a topic of interest. Afterwards members enjoy a light brunch.  These meetings (comprising the lunch) are included with full membership.  It’s a great way for both our long time members and those who have recently joined to get together and get to know each other.

This group is open to all AIWC Genoa members. The Book Club meets from September to May. Ten books are chosen in advance (one back up book included). Usually the Book Club meets in homes of members, but if the number of people attending is too large, a meeting can also be arranged elsewhere, in a cafe or other suitable location. Lively discussions and good company guaranteed!

Our monthly Readers Group runs from September through May/June. Each month members read a chosen book in English and get together with other club members to discuss it, usually in a local cafe. It’s another great place to meet people and have interesting conversation.

Our monthly ‘aperitivo’ takes place at one of our members homes. Partners or friends of members are welcome and everyone contributes by bringing a dish for the occasion, often international food from their home country. It’s a great occasion to get to know people and make new friends.

Different activities are organised for members and guests in and around Genoa such as a visit to a local museum with a guided tour, a viewing of a current exhibition or a concert. Sometimes there are shopping trips or a spa day This is a great opportunity to enjoy many of the great cultural possibilities in Genoa in good company.

Held in late September usually in a seafront bar or garden, our Welcome Back Coffee is a time to greet friends and introduce prospective new members and also to get ready for the busy season ahead.

The annual Christmas Charity Bazaar is our most important and successful event which is open to the public. Held every year at the end of November or the beginning of December, all members get involved in staffing speciality tables such as the white elephant, clothing, handicrafts, books, International foods, children’s room, baked goods, raffle and more! This event sustains our charities throughout the year.

We celebrate the Christmas season with an aperitivo or lunch. Partners and friends of members are also invited.  This is an occasion to exchange greetings for the holiday season!

In honor of International Women’s Day, our club members attend an annual lunch at one of Genoa’s local restaurants where we celebrate women and think about women’s issues.  Usually, toiletries are collected to be donated to one of the women’s charities that we support.

St Patrick is probably best known for driving the snakes from Ireland….many years later, Saint Patrick’s Day has come to be associated with everything Irish and green; so AIWC Genoa members put on their best green and gold pants, sweaters or shamrock shirt, dye their hair green and have a great party with food & fun! 

An important fundraising event for the AIWC of Genoa is held in an exclusive venue where we enjoy an evening of good food, wine and music. The proceeds of this event go to a selected charity.
